OBEY GOD AND OBEY HIS MESSENGER

This is the last part of this topic “Quran Alone”. Actually I wanted to write it in the first place, but when I organized my thought, I found that this topic is interrelated with so many other arguments, and if do not clear the other arguments it would be a long writing to explain. Therefore, I choose it to write at last.
Before proceeds, let us refresh our mind what have argued and learned in previous writing. So, far we have learned…

1.The Quran is fully detailed and self-explanatory, and no other book is needed to explain Quran. (See Quran Alone Part 1: Click This Link)

2.The only revelation received by Prophet Muhammad (s) is Quran. No other revelation by any means was revealed besides Quran to the prophet (s) (See Quran Alone Part 2: Click This Link and Quran Alone Part 3: Click This Link )

3.The best examples and pattern that is in the prophet is found in Quran, not by any hadith or Sunnah. Allah clear it in Quran. (See Quran Alone Part 4: Click This Link )

So, when we are clear about the three topic mentioned above, it will be very easy to understand this topic.

In Quran, numerous places, Allah says, “Obey God and Obey His messenger”. So, we need to understand what does the word “Obey His Messenger” means. Since, Only revelation received was Quran, and Muhammad was commanded to teach only Quran, we can say what prophet said about religion was only from Quran. Thus, obeying messenger means obeying Quran alone, nothing else. Let me give an example:

Let’s say Allah says to Prophet Muhammad (s) to do a particular task. And Muhammd (s) said the exactly same thing to do so as commanded by Allah. And the command is recorded in Quran. Now, if we obey and do this particular task, we are indeed obeying the prophet and thereby obeying Allah. Here, the saying of Allah and the messenger is one thing and as result, by obeying messenger we obey Allah. Therefore, Allah says:
He who obeys the Apostle, obeys God: But if any turn away, We have not sent thee to watch over their (evil deeds). (4:80)

Now the question may arise, then why Allah says obey the messenger? Let us see:

1.Only Prophet Muhammad (s) heard the revelation:
Nobody except the prophet ever heard any revelation directly from Allah. There was no record of it anywhere. It was only to prophet (s) who directly received (by arch angle Gabriel) the revelation. Therefore, any part of revelation of Quran came first from the prophet’s mouth. Therefore, it was necessary for Allah to command people to obey the messenger, meaning obey the message.

2.There was no revelation besides Quran:
See point 2 of the second para

3.Muhammad(s)’s teaching was only Quran:
See point 3 of the second para. And Allah warns to the Prophet by saying:

"It (the Quran) is a revelation from the Lord of the universe. Had he (Muhammad) uttered any other teachings, We would have grabbed him by the right, and We would have severed his Wateen (Major artery of the heart), none of you could have helped him." 69:43-47

4.The sole duty of the messenger is to deliver message:
Obey God, and obey the Apostle, and beware (of evil): if ye do turn back, know ye that it is Our Apostle's duty to proclaim (the message) in the clearest manner. (5:92)

Say: "Obey God, and obey the Apostle: but if ye turn away, he is only responsible for the duty placed on him and ye for that placed on you. If ye obey him, ye shall be on right guidance. The Apostle's duty is only to preach the clear (Message) (24:54)

So obey God, and obey His Apostle: but if ye turn back, the duty of Our Apostle is but to proclaim (the Message) clearly and openly. (64:12)

So, from the above verse, we see the duty of the messenger was to deliver the message. So, one message was Quran, and messenger’s sole duty was to deliver the message, the obeying messenger means obeying the message.

The same example, given earlier: Let’s elaborate it;
1. Allah says “XXXX”
2. Muhammad (s) received the revelation “XXXX”
3. This revelation is recoded “XXXX” in Quran
4. There was no other revelation whatsoever called “YYYY”
5. Muhammad (s) only teaches “XXXX”
6. We can see this recorded revelation in Quran
7. We follow the command recorded in Quran “XXXX”
8. Therefore, we are following the Prophet and Allah as well
9. Therefore, the command of Allah and teaching of the Prophet is same.
10. Prophet never teach anything besides Quran
11. So, Obeying messenger means to obey command of Allah and that is Quran
