Not the poor kids, Robi smiles using them!

The mobile phone operator Robi has started distributing EID clothes among the underprivileged children as their part of company and product campaign. But they collected money from their subscriber by month-long campaign.



The campaign is, if subscriber recharge in his cell phone Tk. 58 he will get 800 present bonus and the underprivileged children will get new shirts in the Holy Eid .



The campaign provokes the subscribers to bring smile to the underprivileged lips (Ei Eid a Kar Mukhe Hasi Photaben!).



But Robi is distributing red (theme colour of Robi) shirts, Panjabi or Fatua with their logo on front side. And wearing these clothes poor children look like Robi campaigners.



Untitled 5 d Social media, especially facebook users already raised the questions against such kinds of campaign and advertisement of Robi collecting money in the name of poor kids.



They said they have recharged TK. 58 for the underprivileged children not for Robi.



But Robi snatched away common people participation using their theme colour (red) and logo on the clothes. They treated Robi’s act as forgery- corporate forgery.



S M Rezaul Karim, ex-secretary of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Lawyers’ Association said that, Robi did the breach of contract with their subscribers.



It is violation of the common law. Robi cannot use public money for their campaign.



Not only that but also they are using poor children by giving a shirt or Panjabi in the name of corporate social responsibility, said Rezaul Karim.



Untitled Rezaul Karim added, ‘If any subscriber goes to the court, I think law will not allow Robi’s such kind of propaganda based social work using public money.’



He said,’ government authority should look into the matter.



We several times tried to communicate Robi over phone regarding the clothes distribution using their logo or theme among underprivileged children collecting money from the subscriber, but failed to take opinion.



Volunteer for Bangladesh, a social organization is working with Robi distributing clothes.

Khondoker Mahbub E Hafiz , Communication officer of Volunteer for Babgladesh said, they just helped Robi distributing the clothes. But they also had a question why Robi is using their brand colour and logo.



Then Robi replied them that they are not using money collecting from the subscribers. Then the question is where subscriber money did go.



He told Robi distributed 25,000 pieces of clothes so far.
