Few days ago, I went to sweeper colony and I have chosen topic “Methors” because, I know, they are most neglected community in our society and it’s a very serious problem. Actually, Methor’s main occupations are Sweeping, cleaning wastes and human sludge and they are born cleaner, sweepers by birth and has no alternative choice. It is become a tradition. First of all I selected three areas, 1. Haddigila Village, near by Comilla 2. Kachpur Bridge, near by Dhaka and 3. Tikatuli, Dhaka.
Haddigila village is near by Comilla district located about 70 kilometers northwest from Comilla city. In Comilla city, most of the sweepers live in haddigilla village. When I reached that village, I met some interesting people and saw some uncommon things as well. I met some different persons; they were very helpful and welcoming. I had seen, how to make Bangla Mod (drinks) and met the customers. that time they were afraid, I guess they thought, I am a journalist. although I told them that I am a student. The environment was really disgusting and dirty.
Kachpur Bridge is near by Dhaka city.I started my journey at 10 a.m. When I reached that time was 11.30 a.m. Then I talked with a boy and his name was “Shiba”. He lives that sweeper colony with his mother and elder brother. But their area was very adjusted and almost fifteen families live that little area. when I was talking with them they told me their some major problem like, water problem, educational problem, health care problem and Actually, they have lots of problem, and I found a major problem that is they are “ Landless” people. They have no permanent land and they don’t have any rights to buy land.
Tikatuli, it ends at Dhaka, Dhaka division. First of all, I took a pass from the sweeper head. Then, I talked with the sweeper head about there problems. That time, I have seen some interesting things like, some women were talking their bath in a open place, some children were playing on the other side, variety people and an uncommon animal for me that was “Feral Pigs”. Their colony was large but the environment wasn’t good. I talked with them about many topics like, education, society, culture, healthcare, dowry, jobs, salary, language, food, grander discrimination, religion and there major problems. I stayed here all the daylong.
So now, I want say they are really neglected community in Bangladesh, but they have some dreams, those are really wonderful, actually they are all waiting for a new day. After my survey I feel their povert, happiness, tears, and business everything. I think it was such a good way to see “what is life”.
