The Girl

Long times ago, there was a small village and the village’s name was ‘Mukutpur’ village, mainly it was a river land and was nearby ‘Shanti’ river. That river was so affluent and played an important role in the lived of those villagers and was also a source of livelihood of poor villagers. Villagers mentality were different from other society’s people, they had very religious conciseness what turned them being conservative. Most of the villagers were Muslims and they didn’t want to see any others religion’s people. Although, globally people were changing in every minute but that seemed to be sign of the end of the world in village people’s thought. It was just a way to handle the poor villagers by the ruling authority. In that village, there was a little girl and her name was Nur. She lived in that village with her mother and her mother’s name was Parvin. Nur and her mother were very helpless in the village because, they didn’t have any male family member, who would take responsibility and maintain their family. Parvin worked in a rich family as a housemaid and Nur helped her mother. It was very hard to live but it was only one way to live. One morning Parvin got unexpected news from her master. Her master would leave this village and there was no work. So Parvin started to search for other work.

One day, Parvin heard a strange news, one rich man wanted to come in the village and buy some young beautiful girls. That time Nur’s and her mother’s situation were very
hard to survived and that time Parvin was tried of her life. After few days later, the unexpected man came in the village; poor villagers were so excited to see him. Because of their poverty, the poor villagers might forget their conciseness. That man name was Shamol, he came and started to buy some girls. Suddenly, Shamol saw a beautiful young girl then he tried to find out her house and wanted to talk to her mother. Unfortunately, that girl was Nur. But when that man was talking with her, she was very afraid of the whole thing. But that man talked with her very pallidly and he said that he wanted to buy her daughter and her daughter would be fine so she should think about it. So she started to think about the matter. She though if she sold her daughter then her daughter would stay well and get a proper way to live and she herself would get lots of money too, so it would be settle of her life. So the next day, Nur’s mother decided that she would sell her daughter and she though that it would be the right decision for both of them. Then she told Shamol that she was agreed with him. When Nur heard that news, Shamol wanted to buy her and her mother agreed with him, she got a shock from her mother. Because a mother can’t do this anymore, and she knew her mother was only one person in her life who loves her a lot. But she understood that her thoughts were wrong. She was very surprised about her mothers’ work, she just asked her mother that “ Why you did this to me?” but Parvin was just silent, she didn’t say anything but might be she was trying so say something. So the next day, Nur got ready to go with the man and started her journey.

After two days later, they reached their place, When Nur woke up, and she saw a beautiful cottage. When she stared her journey there was some girls with her but now she could feel that she is alone. After a moment, Nur saw a very old man. He came to her and said, “Hello, my name is Petter and now you have to stay with me and have to work for me”. But Nur didn’t say anything she was just seeing him like a stranger. Then Nur came inside in the cottage that cottage was well furnished and decorated with verity lights. She was feeling very well and she was trying to take that place of her own. She was continuing her work best and made her master happier.

In another evening, Nur saw a middle aged woman, who was a great dancer in India. That woman was talking with Petter something about Nur, after one hour later; Petter called Nur and asked her, “If you want to go with her?” Nur replied that no but why? Petter said that, “It should be good for you and I bought you for her not for mine and sad is you have to go with her; she is a great dancer in whole India”. Nur didn’t have any other options. Then the woman wanted to know something about herself and her family, and try to bond with her.

So when Nur was staying with the woman that woman wanted to changed her name and she did it. The woman has kept her name ‘Lata’. After a while, Nur understood that the woman was not only a dancer she was a pleasure women and her profession also includes human trafficking. So Nur got afraid about that because as a Muslim girl she didn’t wanted to be a dancing girl like that woman and other girls in her area. But Nur was helpless and didn’t do anything to protect herself. So few months later, Lata became a good dancer and also a pleasure woman in that area. She used to dancing and about that profession. She passed much more years in this way and she became an expensive dancer in her area. One day, she had a nightmare about her mother then she woke up and she was thinking about her mother and her home. Who was she and what did she want? When Lata was a girl she had a dream to build up a mosque for her villagers and that mosque would be the biggest mosque in her village. Nur had lots of dreams but she didn’t make those come true so she decided that she would be a perfect person and wanted to do something good for her village and makes her dream come true. So she was starting her preparation for going back to her village and build up a mosque.

When she arrived her village, she focused on her village; she was starring her broken empty house, villagers, roads, shops, field and trees. That was so pathetic for her, because it was her birthplace and she grew up here with her family. She got upset when she thought about her mother. That night a neighbor came to her house and asked her, “Why did you come in this village? Villagers are very angry with you and they don’t like you. So you should leave this village as soon as possible.” Then Lata replied him, “What’s wrong with them? I come here to do something good for the villagers, I want to build a mosque in this village and I think it will be a beautiful mosque in our village. So they should be help me for this work”. That time neighbor was silent and thinking about her, he did not say anything to her. Then Lata asked him do you help me? He just replied
that no I can’t. The next morning, labors came and started to her construction work. But that time a divine was starting to insult her and said “we don’t accept a dancing girl’s mosque.” And he tried to involve all villagers. Naturally, curious villagers rose they’re hands and joined with him. But Lata didn’t listen to their possessions and she was just keeping her work. After one month, the villagers looked at her like villain and they believed that she was an evil for their society, so they should killed her. Another side, her mosque got a beautiful look and it would be the biggest mosque in the village, so she has become villager’s envy. For that reason, some jealous people decided that they would destroy the beautiful mosque and it would be the best and she deserved that. Because of she was a pleasure girl and a pleasure girl could not build up a mosque. It would be kind of a sin and if they wouldn’t stop her. So they made a plan to destroy her and her mosque.

On the next night, the villagers came together and set fire on her broken house and mosque. And they were shouting her to leave the village as she was considered an evil; and also they wouldn’t accept a dancing girl in the village and her mosque. That time she was trying to protest them but they didn’t listen anything and she didn’t get any support. When she tried to come out in the house they were biting her like a dog and didn’t come out inside the house, as a result those villagers killed her. She was burned on the fire and it was a murder. But villagers were thinking, whatever they done it was good for them and they’re God would be happy for that, because she was a pleasure girl, a pleasure girl could not live in a Muslim society. She was a nasty person in the society. She wanted to build up a mosque for her village people and it hurt their religion.

Commentary: My short story is a tragic story. When I thought about this short story I try to write something about our society’s lacking. In our society there have many people whose mentality are like those villagers. Nur was the central character in this short story, basically, Nur was a normal poor girl and she wanted to live like others girls but sadly, it didn’t happen with her. For her worse luck she had to survive a very hard time in her young age without her family. But also she had a dream, as a Muslim, she wanted to buildup a Mosque in her village, then when she wanted to fulfill her dream, it became very dangerous in her life. People said her that she was a nasty person and an evil in their society and they bitted her like a dog. Finally, she was considered a failure in her society and she died. But villagers were thinking, whatever they done it was good for them and they’re God would be happy for that. Because she was a pleasure girl and it was her main fault that’s why, her society people looked at her like a nasty person and hated her. Because in our country or our neighbor countries, there have lived many types of people and many religion’s people. So most of the people don’t tolerate other religion’s people and their cultural and there also have some religion’s conciseness, beliefs, thinking and conservativeness. Which are sometimes become very dangerous for us.
