GOVT MOVE TO CONSTRUCT FLATS FOR LOW AND MIDDLE-INCOME GROUPS SOON

The National Housing Authority (NHA) under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works has initiated the move to construct the flats at Mirpur, Dhaka.The government is set to award contracts soon among local bidders to build some 520 flats in the city for the middle-income group people. These flats will be built as part of the original plan of the Housing and Public Works Ministry. The government has actually approved a project involving Tk 669.71 crore to build a total of 1,000 flats. In the first phase, the proposed 520 flats will be constructed in five separate high-rises- each of 1500 square feet in size each having 104 flats. Official documents reveal that the NHA has already selected a number of contractors through a tender process for the construction of the apartment buildings. As per terms and conditions of the tender, each of the firm has to complete the project within 30 months after the award of the contract. The project has been a part of the government’s mega project to build several thousand low-cost apartments in phases for low- and middle-income groups instead of allocating lands. The estimated cost for each of the building was said to be Tk 55.16 Crore.
