NOW GOVT FOCUS ON AGRI REHABILITATION

To expand the cultivation of new varieties of crops in the affected districts, the government has decided to spend Tk 32.49 crore on its agriculture rehabilitation and incentive programme in the upcoming Robi season to recoup the losses of the farmers affected by recent floods. The objectives of the agriculture rehabilitation programme for the farmers of the affected districts are to expand the cultivation, increase the balanced use of fertilizer, expand wheat, maize, mustard and potato cultivation with less irrigation and raise the per hectare production of crops. Under the rehabilitation programme, the government will spend TK 20.75 crore on supplying free seeds and fertilizer to 2,22,000 flood-hit farmers. The farmers of 12 districts-Jessore, Khulna, Bagerhat, Narail, Satkhira, Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalakati, Patuakhali, Barguna, Bhola and Gopalganj will get incentives under the programme . The aim of incentive programme is to motivate the farmers for cultivating developed and new varieties of corps. Under the incentive programme, the government will spend TK 11.74 crore on supplying free seeds and chemical fertilizers for 100,710 farmers. Besides, 42.3 tonnes of seeds of different crops, including vegetables from BADC, BINA and BARI will be distributed among 10, 257 farmers in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogra districts.
