Japanese support to carry out a need assessment for providing technical assistance to Bangladesh and other South Asian countries for future energy conservation. Bangladesh is striving to attain full efficiency in energy supply to both public and private sectors by enhancing its capacity and commercial purchase from neighboring countries to spur economic growth as the government targets to achieve the mid-income status by 2021 to become a developed nation by 2030. “Japanese experience in energy conservation could be relevant. Bangladeshi general people happy to learn that the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) with assistance from Japanese Ministry of Economy and Trade has undertaken a project to carry out need assessment to provide technical assistance on future energy conservation activities in Bangladesh and other countries in South Asia. We deeply appreciate Japan’s generosity. Bangladesh will always remain open to supporting energy initiatives that would ensure adequate and consistent diversification. “In this context, integrated and regional power trade is perhaps the only realistic tool to maintain a healthy and competitive energy sector of the future. Energy is an important area of cooperation between South Asian countries and Japan. We praised Japan for assisting in Bangladesh’s energy sector development by assisting in establishing a series of power projects, including some in the pipeline, while the most prominent one being the Matarbari Project.
