লরেন্স লিপশুলজ এর আবেদন

১৯৭৯ এর ১৫ ই আগস্ট লরেন্স লিপশুলজ যখন তার বিখ্যাত বই:

Bangladesh- The Unfinished Revolution পাবলিশ করেন, তখনকার বাংলাদেশ সরকার (জিয়া) সাথে সাথে এই বই কে ব্যান করেন যা পরবর্তী ১০ বছর পর্যন্ত্য বহাল থাকে (এরশাদ পর্যন্ত্য)। উনার মুখেই শুনা যাক:

"A long time ago I wrote a book called Bangladesh: The Unfinished Revolution. The first edition of the book sold out rather quickly. The day it was released (August 15, 1979) The Guardian in London published nearly a full-page excerpt opposite the leader page. In Bangladesh, then under army rule, not a word appeared in the press about its publication. The book was banned for more than decade by the back-to-back military regimes of General Ziaur Rahman and General Mohammed Ershad. "







উনি এখন আবার এই বইয়ের নিউ এডিশান পাবলিশ করার কাজ আরম্ভ করেছেন। নতুন এডিশন কেন তা বলতে গিয়ে উনি বলেন যে



"The reason for a new edition, however, is a more serious one. There is a deeper and more comprehensive story yet to be told. Aside from other preoccupations, I had delayed the publication of a revised, expanded book because I felt there were gaps that needed to be researched, questions that needed more definitive answers. Even as I worked on other projects, I kept returning to Bangladesh and nearly every year I came upon additional and often troubling details of the original story that I had not adequately grasped or understood at the time I first wrote the two 45,000 word articles that would become the book.



We now know much more about many of the painful events in Bangladesh’s past than we knew at the time the first edition was published. We have found keys to several of the locked doors that were shut to us. Behind those doors are chapters of Bangladesh’s unknown history. I have reached the age where it is time to bring out a new edition that would draw together the additional knowledge and material that is already in my possession or within reach. "







প্রথম এডিশন পাবলিশ হওয়ার সাথে সাথেই শেষ হয়ে যায়.. যা এখন আর কিনতে পাওয়া যায় না.. বাংলাদেশের অনেকের কাছে হয়ত ফটোকপি ভার্সন আছে।



নতুন এডিশন পাবলিশ করার জন্য উনি এক অভিনব পন্হা গ্রহন করেছেন : "Reader funded publication". For this reason he is accepting donation and if you donate $100, you get a signed copy of the new edition and if you donate $250, you get two copies- one sent to your friend.
