International Mother Language Day

In every calendar there are some remarkable days that remind people some prominent events that took place in the past. February 21st is such a day in the international calendar. This day is called The International Mother Language Day. Formerly, when the day was observed nationally only in Bangladesh, it was called “Shaheed Dibosh”. The event of this very day took place on the same day in 1952. The then West Pakistani rulers imposed Urdu as state language although the majority of the people of East Pakistan spoke Bangla. So the Bengali loving people started revolt against this wanton decision being led by the teachers and students of Dhaka University. To diminish their revolt the government declared curfew. But the strikers violated the rule and police fired into the procession. As a result, a number of DU students named Salam, Barkat, Shafiq, Jabbar,Shafiur and unknown others were killed. To honour and commemorate the love and sacrifice of Bengali loving people the UNESCO proclaimed the day to be observed globally as the International Mother Language Day on 17th November 1999. Since then 188 country members of the UNESCO celebrate the day. It doubtlessly upholds our pride of being bangalee, the nation in the world who can even die for mother tongue.

How to open a Bank Account

It is said that saving is self-reliance. Money saved once becomes the best support to one in ones adverse situations. To save money opening a bank account is the best way. But people have a bit hesitation to deal with bank. The process of opening a bank account is not a pretty difficult job at all. One has to accomplish some formalities. At first she/he is to go to a bank. No matter, whether he knows anybody there or not. The officials in any bank are very helpful and cordial. The manager will give him/her an application form to be filled up accordingly. A recommendation by someone who has an account in the bank is needed in favour of the applicant. The introducer must put his signature along with address and account number in the relevant part of the application form. The applicant has to put his specimen signature and attach two passport size photographs with the filled up form and a minimum amount of money demanded by the bank for the type of his/her account. Now the formalities are complete. After this he will have a pass book from the bank, all information of the account to be noted in. Nevertheless, he will have a check book also through which s/he would draw different sums of money from his/her account whenever need.

Traffic Jam

A long line of vehicle on road that cannot move or that can move very slowly is called traffic jam. It has become a common affair in the big of Bangladesh. It usually occurs in the junction of roads, near a bus-stand and sometimes near a market. It is mainly caused by indiscriminate running of the vehicles, haphazard parking and open shops on foot-path. Lack of knowledge of the traffic rules or an ignoring tendency of those rules is also an important fact in this field. Vehicles of slow speed e.g. rickshaw, van, pushcart etc. are responsible for traffic jam in busy roads. Traffic jam results untold sufferings and waste of valuable time of the passengers and pedestrians. For remedy, the drivers should be made fully aware of the traffic rules and they must obey them accordingly. Sufficient parking places should be made. Adequate number of foot over bridges and underpasses should be constructed for the passerby to cross the road so that the vehicles can run smoothly. Above all, we all should come forward to solve this problem.

May Day

In every calendar there are some remarkable days that remind people some prominent events took place in the past. May 1st is such a day in the international calendar. This day is called International workers’ day. It should be noted here that although May 1st is commemorated as the international workers’ day, the main event (revolt of the workers)took place on May 3, 1886. On that day police shot into the mass of the revolting workers at an industry in Chicago namely McCormick Harvest Machine Company. By the firing of the police at least one was killed, some five or six were severely wounded and innumerable strikers were injured. All the favours and rights workers enjoy today¬¬¬ a minimum wage, safety laws and eight-hour workday are the result of the revolt and sacrifice of the workers on that day. Before this revolution workers had to work for long fourteen hours or even more a day. They could have realized that exploitation of the workers will continue unless they stand united against deprivation. Their realisation was proved true. So, to commemorate their historic struggle May 1st has now become an international holiday.

A Street Hawker

A street hawker is a very familiar figure in towns and in villages. He is a vendor of variety of things. He moves from street to street to sale his goods. He carries his goods mostly on head and sometimes in hands, sometimes on shoulders or sometimes in a small hand-cart. He usually sells toys, food items, fruits, utensils and things of domestic use. He reaches the goods up to the doors of his customers. His customers are mainly children and women. He usually deals in attractive things that mainly attract children and womenfolk. As he passes along the street he makes a peculiar cry to draw attention of the customers. His voice is hardly understandable. A street hawker is a very clever person. He knows very well how to please children and women and also knows that it is easy to convince children and women. A hawker usually chooses the hour when the master or male persons of the family are away. At the mentioned time he wants to make a good bargain. However, a street hawker is a hard working person. He passes a long way everyday on foot and provides a helpful service indeed.

A Street Beggar

A street beggar is a person who extends his/ her hand to others for charity or alms. A street beggar takes begging as profession although it is not approved by any authority. According to Hadith, “Begging is worse than prostitution”. A street beggar is usually found standing, sitting or lying by the road side. S/he makes

loud shout by the name of Allah and Rasul (S). S/he is seen almost everywhere both in towns and in villages, especially in busy areas. S/he may be a man, a woman, a child or a disabled person. S/he is always dressed in torn cloth. A street beggar begs alone or in company of a family member or in group. Whenever s/he meets a passerby s/he stretches his/ her hand for help. Some people have mercy and some people go on their way. Sometimes a beggar makes repeated appeal which irritates passersby. Beggars are, in fact, miserable fellows. Some of the beggars have near and dear ones who are immoral and feel no for their old parents and innocent children. There are also some immoral persons who take begging as an easy way of making money. It encourages idleness and hinders social development. The children of the beggars also turn beggars. Begging is not a profession at all. So the government and the privileged class should come forward to change the view of the beggars and rehabilitate them.

Drug Addiction

Drug or medicine cures diseases when it is taken economically following the prescription of a doctor. But when someone takes overdose of it being violently attracted, such state is called drug addiction. Drug addiction is a great threat to our young generation particularly. Mostly young people fall a victim to drug addiction. Ill company is basically responsible for this. There are some other reasons as well. Some frustrated people take it as a means of relief. Some initially take it as a fun or to taste but ultimately it turns into addiction. People who become addicted to drug cannot stop it once. Because their bodies become accustomed to drug and they cannot do without taking it. But its result is nothing but approaching death. The Health of the addicts Break down. They lose mental balance and strength and rationality. They lose social status, love of near and dear ones and gains hatred and antipathy of all. Different fatale diseases enjoy their heath. They suffer from amnesia, insomnia nausea, physical weakness, blood pressure and so forth. Their lungs, kidneys, libber, heart and brain all get damaged. They lead a life not better than that of beasts rather worse. So it most be stopped. Social awareness should be crated widely, strict lows should be enacted against its business and marketing.

Global Warming

Global warming has become a buzz (¸b¸b) word in recent years. The climatologists give an alarming report that the world is undergoing a significant change on temperature. This rising of temperature is called global warming. The temperature of the world is increasing day by day which is posing a threat to all living beings. The cause of this disaster lies hidden under the production of carbon dioxide and CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) that mainly emit (wbM©Z nq) from burning fossil fuels (Rxevk¥ R¡vjvwb), industries and air coolers etc. The experts accuse ‘green house effects’ of this warming. They predict and fear that the global temperature may increase up to 4o Celsius by 2050. If that happens, world’s food production, wildlife, woods, human health all will catastrophically (Ki“Yfv‡e) be deteriorated (AebZ). Ice in the polar region has already started melting (M‡j hvIqv) to a large extent which is raising the sea level. If this continues most of the low lying areas of the world including the southern part of our country will be flooded forever before 2050. The developed countries are mostly responsible for this. Global warming has become a term of much anxiety. It requires to be confined to a tolerable extent as early as possible. Otherwise, our beloved world will turn into a den of deaths, disasters and calamities.

Street Children

One of the most miserable plights in Dhaka is life of the street children. They have no certainty of food with other basic rights. They are always dressed in torn and dirt. Their sweet faces turn pale.No happiness approaches them. They are absolutely deprived of education. In search of livelihood they usually take the profession of ‘tokai’ (garbage collector), flower seller, porter etc. Even sometimes they steal. The winter and the rainy season are all the same to them. They are to sleep on the footpaths. Every now and then police drive them away. When they fall sick they are to remain nursingless as they cannot afford to see a doctor. They lead a life of most uncertainty. Sometimes they become drug addicted before understanding what drug is. Ultimately they engage themselves in several social crimes to manage money for drugs. Being a poor country Bangladesh cannot ensure smooth life for all her citizens. Again it is not expected that one class should live in luxury and the other under open sky. So we all should extend a sympathetic hand to our innocent street children remembering the famous saying – “Amar santan jeno thake dudhe-bhate” means – let my children live in cordiality.

Gender Discrimination

Gender discrimination (ˆelg¨) is one of the social problems of our country. It begins at the birth of the children. In the existing socio-economic set up male children are welcome but females are not for some reasons. Female children are deprived of their rights often by religious misinterpretation (ag©xq Ace¨vL¨v). Any expenditure (LiP) for sending a daughter to school is considered wastage of money by many parents while that for a son is regarded as an investment. Many parents believe that their duty to daughters is to prepare them for marriage and child bearing. In most cases they are made understand that they are inferior (wbK…ó) to the male. They must not eat as much as men and should sacrifice the better things all the time. Even if they need to go outside they must be escorted (mnhvÎx) by the male members. As a result, a tendency (cÖeYZv) of dependency grows in the mind of the female. They develop a sense of self-effacement (¸Uv‡bv), self-denial and inferiority. A girl can hardly express her opinion concerning her marriage and family. Resultantly (djkÖ“wZ‡Z), as nation, we are lagging behind. Now it has become a crying need to make a balance. Our government has made education free up to HSC for girls. They also get stipend (e„wË). People of our country are gradually coming to understand that without coordinated (mgwš^Z) efforts of male and female complete development is impossible.

The Sixty Dome Mosque

The Sixty Dome Mosque is an archaeological (cÖZœZvwË¡K) symbol of the middle age. It is one of the greatest tourist attractions and best architectural beauties in Bangladesh. This great mosque stands on the eastern bank of a vast sweet water tank in Bagerhat district close to the Sundarbans. This prominent mosque was founded in mid 15th century by a renowned saint Ulugh Khan Jahan who was the earliest torch bearer of Islam in the southern part of Bangladesh. Although the mosque is known as Sixty Dome Mosque, there are actually 77 domes among which 7 are chauchala or four-sided and the rest are squat. There are 11 arched doorways on the east and 7 each on north and south for ventilation and light. The inside and the outside of the mosque give a view of simple architecture but the inside of the western wall is gorgeously ornamented with terracotta flowers and foliage. Besides being used as a prayer hall, the mosque was used as the court of Khan Jahan Ali. This Islamic edifice (cÖvmv`) has been enlisted in the World Heritage Sight. Every year thousands of tourists from home and abroad visit this unique possession of Bangladesh.

Arsenic Pollution

Poisoning by arsenic has emerged as one of the most serious problems in recent years in Bangladesh. A large portion of our total population has already affected by arsenic and more are being affected gradually. Arsenic is, basically, a poison and the disease caused by arsenic poisoning is called arsenicosis. This poison remains contaminated with ground water. It does not affect people immediately, but rather after a long period of 8 or 10 years the symptoms of arsenicosis are found in human bodies. It is a great threat to mankind because the ultimate result of arsenicosis is cancer. The recommendation for the affected people is to drink water from a safe source and to eat a balanced diet particularly containing fish and vegetables. Surface water in ponds and rivers is free from arsenic but not from germs. So this water can be drunk only after purification by boiling or by some other forms of treatment. It is to be noted here that boiling cannot purify arsenic contaminated water. All the shallow tube wells of the country should be tested to determine whether they contain arsenic or not. And safe tube wells should be painted green and red the poisoned ones. It is a matter of relief that arsenicosis is not a contagious disease. So we need to be more conscious and not anxious at all.

The Village Doctor

The Village doctor is a familiar figure in the villages. He is a popular person there. Generally he may not be a registered doctor. He receives some training by working under a qualified doctor for some years. He has a dispensary in his house. He gets up early in the morning. He then attends his patients. He treats his patients very carefully. He gives them advice and medicine. After finishing his duty there, he goes out to see other patients in the villages. Sometimes he spends the whole night sitting

besides a patient. His presence and affectionate touch fill the patients with hope and courage. But he takes small fees from the patients. Very often he gives free treatment to the poor. Really a village doctor is an important figure to the villagers. He is loved

and respected by all. He is not only a doctor but also a friend of the villagers.

A Tea Stall

Tea is a popular drink all over the world. So, a tea stall is a common place to all classes of people. It is usually found at the turn of the road, in the train station or steamer ghat, near a factory or an office. In a tea stall hot drink or tea is supplied. Biscuits, bread, bananas, betel leaf are also available here. It opens early in the morning and closes late at night. It is not well furnished. Even is some stalls there are no chairs but benches. A tea stall has normally two parts. In the front part there is the

kitchen. A few persons are employed in a tea stall. Sometimes, the owner himself serves as the boy and the cashier. Different kinds of people gather here. It is a meeting place of friends. They refresh themselves with a cup of tea and discuss different topics. Sometimes they discuss politics in a tea stall. Thus a tea stall is a noisy and busy place from morning till late at night. Really its utility cannot be ignored.

A winter morning

A winter morning in our country is misty. It is cold outside. Grass and leaves are wet with dew drops. There is dense fog everywhere. Everything looks hazy. Things at distance can hardly be seen. The tall trees covered with fog and they can not be made out. The sun rises late. People also get up late from sleep. They want to remain in bed even when the sun rises. Children and old people are afraid of the pinching cold of the morning. The children gather straw and make fire to warm themselves. The poor and old people bask in the sun. A winter morning is pleasant to the rich people. In the morning pias is prepared with data-juice. But when the sun shines on the grass, they glitter with dazzling beauty. The sun goes up, fog melts away and the people go to their respective work. Indeed nature looks dull in a winter morning.

Our National flag

National flag is the symbol of independence to a nation. Every nation of the world has a national flag of its own. Bangladesh has also a national flag. The proportion of its lengthand breadth is 10:6. Our national flag is a piece of rectangular green cloth with a round red disclike patch in the middle. The radius of the red circle is one-fifth of the length of the flag. The green colour represents the admiration of youthful vigour as well as the green fields and the ever green subtopical forest of Bangladesh. The circle symbolizes the rising sun with new hopes and aspiration of a new nation. The flag is hoisted everyday on top of our important government buildings and educational institutions. It is hoisted everywhere on the independence day and the victory day. Our national flag always inspires us to dedicate our lives for the greater interest of the country. So we are proud of it.

A VILLAGE MARKET

There is a saying that God has made the country and man has made the town. Bangladesh is a country of village. There is a market place in almost every big village. The villagers buy and sell the things of their everyday needs. It is a part and parcel of the daily life of the villagers. The villagers come to the market for their own requirement.

A village market generally sits by the side of canal or by the side of a road. Some markets sit under a big banyan tree. Many village markets sit by the riverside.

Two types of markets are there in Bangladesh. They are ‘Bazar’ and ‘Hat’. Daily market is called ‘Bazar’. It is held once or twice a week. It sits at afternoon and breaks up after sunset. There is a huge gathering in the hat.

We find two kinds of shops in a market. These are permanent shops and temporary shops. athe permanent shops like grocers. cloth-dealers, tailors, etc are built in rows. The temporary shops for rice, vegetables, meat and fish are make shift shops. These are arranged in open places.

A village market is very useful to the villagers. They can buy and sell their daily necessaries from here. It also serves different purposes.

Finally we can say that a village market is the backbone of the rural economy. So the government and the local authority should take necessary measures to make a village market a perfect place for trade and commerce. Otherwise, it will fail to serve the villagers truly.

FLOODS IN BANGLADESH

Flood is an overflow of water. It is a natural calamity. It is almost an annual affair in Bangladesh. Bangladesh suffers out of flood almost every year.

There are many cause of flood. It is mainly caused by heavy showers of rain. Rivers and canals cannot carry the rain water to the sea rapidly. So there is sudden rise of water in the rivers and canals that overflow their banks and cause flood. Floods may also be caused by cyclones, tidal bores or the melting of snow on mountains.

It makes life miserable. It causes a big loss of life, property and crops. It sweeps over villages and towns. Streets, roads and even people’s houses go under water. People cannot go from one place to another. It washes away crops, vegetables, fruit trees and makes people homeless. In this way, people become victimised of its devastation.

It vistis our country almost every year. The floods which occurred in the years1954, 1960, 1968, 1970, 1972, 1974, 1987, 1988, 1998, and 2004 were terrible. The flood of 1954 affected the whole of Bangladesh. It visited our country two times in 1968 and three times in 1974 and caused a huge loss of life and property. The flood of 1988 has broken all the records of lossess.Ninety percent villagesand towns went under water for several days. Flood occured in 2004 has broken the records of the last century. The total loss is 13000 crores taka.

Epidemic and famine break out after flood. The areas affected by flood become muddy and unhealthy. Therefore, various kinds of diseases such as cholera, dysentery and typhoid break out. There is scarcity of drinking water. The price of all daily necessities increase very high. Crops are washed away. So there is scarcity of food. But if the flood lasts for a very short time, it makes the land fertile.

Flood causes a huge loss every year in Bangladesh. So it is urgently necessary to take proper steps for the prevention of flood. Both long and short-term plans can be taken for this. A well-planned irrigation system will go a long way to lessen the extent and fury of flood. We can also build our houses on a high level. The silted-up beds of our rivers should be dug for carrying more water than at present.

Ours is a very poor country. If we cannot check the huge loss that flood causes every year, our development will be impossible. So we must find out effective and permanet measures for the prevention of flood.

WONDERS OF MODERN SCIENCE

Sciencemeans disciplined knowledge. Modern science has many booms, that can’t easily be written. One after one, it is providing the mankind with wonders. The wonders of modern scinence are too many to illustrate them in a nut shell.

With the invention of electricity the world has assumed a new shape. It is the first wonder of modern science. It is the driving force of modern civilization. Electric-power is used for various purposes.Without it, the advancement of modern science is impossible.

The invention of television has added a great achievement to the history of modern science. It is another wonder of modern science. It is a popular medium of communication thoughts and opinions. At the same tome, it gives both image and the vocie of the speaker.

Computer is one of the great wonder of modern science. It si a substitute for the human brain. In every walk of life man has been using computer. It seems that in the distant future man will be a doll and computer will do every brain work.

Nuclear energy is great wonder of modern science. Now man can make Atol Bomb, Hydrozen Bomb, Neutron Bomb, Missiles etc. with the help of this energy. Man may use this power either in destructive or constructive works.

The exploration of space is the most wonerful success of modern science. To land on the moon was out of man’s imagination just few years ago. But man has done this impossible work successfully by dint of science.

Biopsy and Ultrasonography, E.C.G Ultra-violet ray, X-ray and Penicillin are the wonders of modern science in the filed of medical science. Besides, there are many other inventions of modern science against many other fatal diseases.

It has created in the field of communication. Telephone, telex, fax, wireless, telegram are great wonders. They have brought the world closer to us. We can send news from one corner of the world to other within a moment.

Modern science is still adding the number of wonders gradually. It is impossible to say what it can perform or, no. It seems that it has started its journey not to stop at any place at any time. It seems to be boundless.

SCIENCE IN OUR DAILY LIFE

We can’t imagine our life without science. It is associated with us greatly. Modern life cannot be thought of without sincerity has made our life easier and comfortable. We feel sound because of its so many gifts. They have removed our sufferings to a great extent.

We see innumerous blessings of science in our daily life. Electricity motor vehicles, domestic appliances, TV, radio, radar, aeroplane, ship, computer etc. have made our life easier and comfortable, Science has relieved human sufferings.

Electricity is a wonderful creation of science. With it we run domestic appliances, mills, factories, machines of various kinds and the liking. Without electricity life would come to steam engine has made the world a global village. Now we can travel any place of the world quickly. Fast moving vehicles like motor bus, cars, trains and aeroplanes have saved our time. We can travel miles after miles within a short span of time. Concord plane can take us from Bangladesh to New York, even, in two hours. Actually, vehicles have given us speed in our life.

Education has been made easier by the goodness of science. Printing press has made books cheap and available to masses. Thousands of books and magazines are printed and widely circulated by scientific means within very short time. All these spread education among people.

Telephone, telegram, fax, telex, wireless works like miracles. E-mail and mobile phones have brought out changes in communication. We can now talk to near ones as well as see the person talking with. The use of computer has done unbelievable advancement in communication. Radio and television have conquered space, time and object. We see the whole world in our drawing room through dish antenna.

Village people are also benefited by the goodness of science. Scientific methods have made easy cultivation and irrigation. Power tiller, power pump have enhanced agricultural activities. People in rural area can easily cultivate their land for crops in a short time. Consequently, they can save many hours of time.

Scientific tools have made life long .They have lessened human sufferings to a great extent. A modern hospital cannot run without the help of science. Life saving mediums x-ray, ultrasonograph, ECG, etc have made it easier to identify diseases.

Man has not only conquered the world but also stepped on the moon with the help of space-crafts. Now man dreams to conquer the mars and other planets.

We see everywhere the influence of science. Its blessings are innumerable and we are blessed with it. We need to make the proper use of sciences in our practical life.

NEWSPAPER

Newspaper is an integral part of modern civilization. In modern world the day begins with a sip over the cup of tea and a glance on the newspaper. It is a paper, that appears before us containing news and views on various affairs at home and abroad. So, it is known as a storehouse of knowledge.

Some people say that newspaper was first published in China. Again others say that Venice was the first territory to bring out newspaper in Europe. England first published it during the regin of Queen Elizabeth. “The India Gazette”. published in 1774, was the first newspaper in the Sub-continent. The missionaries of Srirampur published “ The Samachar Darpan” in 1818. It was the first Bangla Newspaper.

Various kinds of newspapers are there in the world. They are the dailies, the weeklies, the monthlies and so on. We have a number of English and Bangla newspapers. The famous dailies are the Bangladesh Observer, the Daily Star, the Independent, the Ittefaq, the Prothom Alo, the Janakantho, the Inquillab, the Jugantor and the liking. There are some famous weeklies and quarterlies also.

Newspapers is a strong medium for educating the people. It serves the purposes of people of different sections. We get all sorts of information in it. It serves as a mirror in which we see the pictures and conditions of home and abroad. Greater space is devoted to political and economic news. There are also news and views about literary and scientific matters, games and sports, the stage, the cinema, the market and the liking. It is, indeed , a caterer of all sorts of news and views.

Sometimes it publishes exaggerated and sensitive information. Sometimes it becomes the organs of rival parties and publicizes jealousy and hatred. Then it causes lots of harms to the people. It is not desirable and should be banned.

Finally it can be said that impartial and fair newspapers contribute many things to build up a nation. If the press is impartial, we will have a strong medium to make everybody conscious of our duties and rights. Then we would be able to protest all kinds of oppressions and we would see a developed country soon. Otherwise, we shall be at fall in near future.

TREE PLANTATION

It is important to save the world from deforestation. With the help of afforestation we can make this a greenish one. “ Give back the forest’ take your town”. Says Rabindranath Tagore. By these lines he tries to convince us about the importance of trees. Tree plantation means planting trees more and more. It is not possible to lead a happy and peaceful life without trees. For trees are badly associated us in many ways.

Lands in the upper valley of a river are more suitable for the growth and development of forest. But Bangladesh is a lower riparian country. That’s why, we have no rich forest resources. Our forest resources constitute with the forest of Bhawal, Madhupur, Chittagong Hill Tracts and the famous Sundarbans.

There are some people who inconsiderately cut down trees everywhere. They do not think that the destruction of forests can destroy the environmental system. For this Bangladesh is turning into a desert. At this, we may face the problems of flood, soil erosion, drought and the liking. It is a great threat to our atmosphere.

We find that there is ample scope for afforestation in Bangladesh. Sea beaches, low lying areas and fallow lands can be brought under the scheme of afforestation with special types of trees suited to the soil. June-July is the best time for planting trees.

Trees play a significant role in our daily life. In order to live we need oxygen. Trees give us that oxygen. They give us foods and fruits. They also provide us with shelter. We get timber from trees and without timber we cannot make our houses furnitures, boats, lanunches, ships etc. If trees are plannted on the banks of rivers and sea-shores, soil erosion can be prevented. They also prevent air pollution. Trees protect the country from the harmful green house effect.

We should plant more and more trees to preserve our environment. Tree plantating programme should be expanded to the remote corner of the country. The officers concerned with this programme should take proper steps and needful measures to make it successful. Government should take necessary initiatives to make the people interested in planting trees.

Finally we can say that trees the imegral part of human survival. The necessity of trees and the importance of it plantation cannot be ignored in any way. So it is our bounden duty to plant trees and take care of them. If not, we shall be ruined by ourselves in near future.

Television

Introduction: The television is a wonderful gift of science. Indeed it is one of the seven wonders of modern science. An English scientist named Bayard invented the television in 1926. But the system had to be gradually improved by many other scientists before it could be successfully utilised by Bayard to make the modern television.

How the system works: Television combines televised scenes with a take to reproducing sounds. This is done by installing a radio telephones at the two ends are thus able to hear and see each other. At the receiving station both the vision and the sound signals are made to pass through a radio frequency amplifier and frequency changer with the result that the signals devise themselves. In fact, the television is a system which employs mechanical photo, electrical and photo, electrical and wireless processes for reproducing scene, object, etc. at a distance. In many ways the method has the likeness to that of the cinema. The difference is that in the cinema pictures on a long film are reproduced while in the television an actual moving figures: i. e. the face of a speaker or of an actor is reproduced.

Its importance: Television is a great improvement over the radio. Only by hearing a man’s speaking we may not understand him fully, but we both see and hear him his speech is likely to produce greater effect on our minds. It is thus clear that the television has a very great importance. Its growing popularity shows that it can be an effective instrument of entertainment and valuable medium of instruction. In western countries, it has already been playing this role with greater and greater success. In Bangladesh a Television station has been set up at Dhaka. It is hoped that this powerful organ of entertainment and instruction will have a network throughout the country before long.

Conclusion: Television is a popular invention of modern science. It is, however, very costly.

But the west Pakistanis controlled everything of the country. They understood it very clearly that their control over the majority would not last long if our language and literature were not crushed. The opposition camp was not strongly organized in the babyhood of Pakistan. The University of Dhaka has always been politically sensitive. The brave students of the university came forward to meet the challenge. They opposed the declaration and started a movement. This movement is called the Language Movement. The rulers of Pakistan wanted to crush the movement at the point of the gun. But they failed to do so. Salam, Jabbar, Barkat, Rafiq, Shafiq and other unknown

boys established the right of our mother tongue at the cost of their life. Not only that, Bangladeshi nationalism was born in the blood of the language martyrs.

Description: During the season the sky looks terrible. Heavy black clouds charged with rain roll across the sky. They are close to the earth’s surface. Violent blasts of wind blow. The sun remains hidden behind the clouds for days together and falls in torrents. Sometimes rain continues for days together. Rivers, tanks and pools are all filled with water. Rivers get muddy and overflow their banks and then the fields appear to be a vast sea. In many villages one has to go about in boats. The landscape appears green. Birds like king storks and herons stand idle in water in search of small fishes. Aquatic birds float on the water for preying fishes. Small children go to fishing by boats and float paper-boats on the water.

Its cause: The monsoon blows over our country brimming water-vapour from the Bay of Bengal. This water-vapour cools when it comes in contact with the cold air. Then the vapour is condensed into cloud and it rains for days together. And we call it the rainy season.

Its demerits: The rainy season in Bangladesh causes some disadvantages. Excessive rain for days together makes the un-metalled roads muddy. Peasants and day-labourers cannot go out for work. Snakes cannot live in their holes and come to human habitation on high land and at times bite people. Continual rain for some days causes floods. Population problem in Bangladesh

Introduction: Bangladesh became independent only a few years ago. It is a small country as well as a developing country. It faced with many problems. But the most complicated problem is it’s over population. Now it is a national problem. This problem resists all of our prosperities.

Present condition: About 130 million people live in Bangladesh. Still about 360 mew children are born every day in this country. If this continues them the population of the country will be double in 30 years. But the wealth of the country is limited. So with the growth of the population, need of country is increasing day by day. It causes shortage of food, houses, and clothing’s. Again the hungry and ailing children do not turn into manpower. They are constantly becoming the burden to the society. The Government has to spend a lot of foreign exchange every year to import food for hungry people.

Causes of the problem: Majority of the people of this country are illiterate. They do not understand what should be done and what should not be done. On the contrary, early marriage, polygamy and over the entire monsoon which comes from the Bay of Bengal are the causes of over population. Without these, the death rate is decline owing to better sanitation, improved medical facilities etc. so, the population is increasing day by day.

The future of the problem: The population of Bangladesh has increased by three percent during the last ten years. If the rate remains constant, the tot6al population of our country will be double by the next twenty years. So, it will be serious then.

Solution of the problem: With the natural resources we must increase our food production to reset the problem. We also should check the birth rate by family planning. The system of polygamy and early marriage gave to be stopped. After all, we should avoid the religious superstition.

Conclusion: the Government should try his best to control birth rate. Family planning should be made more popular. Lessons should be taken from the world situation. If nothing positive to check this alarming growth of population is not taken now, a very dark future will be in store for this nation.

The Life of a Great man or Hazrat Muhammad (S.M)

Value of Time

Introduction: Time is the most valuable thing in our life. It is more valuable than health and wealth. Our life is made of moments and hours. So to kill time is shorten life.

Time and tide: Time and tide wait for none. Once passed they never come back. But they differ from each other too. Time does not follow in vain. It makes the land fertile when it passes away. Time, if it is wasted makes our life barren and if utilized, it makes us happy.

Right use of time: Success in life depends on the right use of time. Our life is very short. But within this short time we have to do various duties. So we must be punctual. There should be time for reading, time for play, time for other works, time for rest and time for prayer. All the great men make right use of time. Even the lower animals like bees and ants make proper use of time.

Evils of wasting time: Those who waste time can never prosper in life. Idleness is the roof of all evils. An idle man cannot earn his living. He must not defer a work for tomorrow and it never done. Moreover, an idle brain is the devil’s workshop.

Conclusion: The benefits of time are too many. So we should make proper use of time. We must not defer anything for future date.

Akbar : No end of troubles. This noise, this crowd and this congestion, this dirt and this smoke and what not.

At that moment a dove flew by and seeing the struggling ant, took pity on her distress. She broke a branch from a nearby tree and dropped it into the water. The ant did not delay but clambered nimbly on to the branch and at last reached the safety of the bank.

Not long after this, the ant was out for a stroll when she came upon the dove again. A hunter was just about to trap the bird. The ant noticed it. At once the ant remembered the great help of the dove. She thought she must do something for the dove. She could not let one die before her eyes who once saved her life. So she hurriedly but on the sly got to the hunter and bit him severely. Being troubled by the ant the hunter moved forward which caused a sound. Hearing the sound the dove could escape from being trapped by flying away. Afterwards the dove met the ant and expressed her gratefulness to her. Since then they became good friends.
