1. Scent of a Woman: Al Pacino at his best. This is one of the best movies in his life. He plays the role of a retired blind soldier. A relationship builds up between him and a college kid. This movie is all about that relationship. My rating: 10/10



2. Scarface: Al Pacino plays the role of a Cuban refugee in United States, who soon climbs up the ladder of underground and becomes a don. The conflict between his ideals and the crimes he needs to be doing to stay alive; the conflict between the memories of his previous life with his mom and little sister and the reality of his present life: all these make this movie a real nice movie. My rating 9/10.



3. Kingdom of Heaven: An ordinary blacksmith, who hasn’t yet recovered from the grief of him wife’s passing away, now runs for life after accidentally killing his brother. Picked up by a lord, he is now set to fill in the boots of his father, an ex-lord. Will he be able to deliver? Lots of inside politics of the empire of Jerusalem and the threat of being attacked by the Saladin to take over the city. Later he ends up with the huge responsibility of reaching an agreement with Saladin to avoid the slaughtering of the Christians of the fallen city. My rating 9/10.



4. American History X: Edward Norton as a mob rouser of a skinhead clan in an American neighborhood, whose only goal is to eliminate all the colored people from the society. After shooting two black car-lifters dead, he is sentenced three years in prison. This prison changed his life. Living so close to the skinheads, blacks, and all other kinds, having to survive the wrath of every watchful eye, he learns a lesson of his life. When he comes out of the prison, his clan expects him to deliver even bigger. But he is not the same man anymore. Will he be able free himself and his family from the shackles, or succumb to it? My Rating: 10/10.



5. The Painted Veil: Edward Norton as a bacteriologist in China, married to an ordinary city girl of London. He finds his wife rather shallow, while the wife finds him unexciting. Desperate to find excitement, she falls for a different man. After her husband finds out: she is left with two choices- to go with his husband into a remote village of china in which cholera has become an epidemic, or to face the embarrassment of divorce petition. It is a movie of raw emotions, pure love, personality conflicts. The best romantic film I ever watched. My rating, of course, 10/10.



6. Inception: Leonardo DeCaprio delivers again. Prepare for a shock. This movie can lock you into a never ending maze for the rest of your life. DeCaprio, being an inceptionist, works with the minds of people. Taking them into surreal world of dream, finding out the darkest truths of their life. But, the dreams he design, are always infected by the memories of his wife. I don’t want to write a spoiler. It’s a must watch. My rating: 10/10.



7. The Prestige: The competition between two magicians turns into obsession. They get their loved ones killed, entire life distorted. But no one is ready to accept anything less than the ultimate defeat of the other. The film is filled with mysteries and drama. An awesome piece. My rating: 10/10.



8. Batman Begins & The Dark Knight: These two action movies also meets your thirst for classics. Amazing work makes this movie a lot more than just action movies. Must watch. My rating: 9/10.



9. V for Vendetta: An art film? Definitely not. An imaginary England, corrupted by power hungry politicians. People forgot to revolt, forgot to think. Entire nation is trapped into centuries of slavery. It’s the time to remind them of who they are. A monster born from the inhuman experiments of biological weapons is determined to take the responsibility. No wonder you will find a lot of resemblance with the world’s superpowers’ dominations and massacre to the rest of the world, and their own people. A 9.5/10 from me.



10. Patch Adams: A person suffering from his own psychological problems is desperate to find a meaning of his life. He finds that in a mental hospital, amidst a number of mentally ill patients. Determined to do something for suffering people, he decides to become a doctor. He defies all the rules and regulations of medical college, and challenges the years’ old medical beliefs. The Bollywood movie “Munnabhai MBBS” is a lame remake of Patch Adams. My rating 9.5/10.



11. The Godfather I & II: Well, do I even need to give an intro? These two movies are must watch. Definitely, 10/10



12. Perfume: I am not sure what to say about it. The last scene was more than what I can stand. But still, it is a really really nice movie. A boy born in the stinking garbage, abandoned at birth, develops a unique smelling ability. He is determined to create the most incredible perfume ever known to human. To achieve that, he needs the smell of human body. Obsessed, he starts abducting and killing. By the time he is captured, he has finished his job. Now, what will happen to him? Convicted for murder, or acknowledged as the creator of the heavenly perfume? Or something else? Rating: 9/10.



13. Life is Beautiful: A Jew man falls in love with a Christian woman and marries her; they also have a very lovely boy. Their beautiful small world gets completely distorted when the Nazis arrest the husband and the son and puts aboard a train to concentration camp. The wife forcibly gets into the train as well. Every single day in the camp is nightmare. You can get killed any moment. It is just impossible to stand the torment and torture. But the father is determined to not only save his child, but also keep him unaware of the brutalities he is surrounded by. He comes up with a story that they all are in a game. Whatever are around, are just parts of a play. He continues this pretension till the end. No rating for this movie. Rating is not enough.



14. A Very Long Engagement: Story of a girl, who lost her lover in the war. She is determined to find him, whatever it takes. She won’t stop until she finds him, or knows for sure that he is dead. A beautiful piece of movie. 9/10.



15. Malena: Malena is not only a very beautiful girl, who unfortunately had a miserable life. Malena is the real face of a war-torn, deteriorating society, through the eyes of a young boy. Another beautiful movie. 9/10.



16. The Notebook: A nice romantic movie. A city girl once comes to a village and falls in love with a country boy. Against all the odds, they must meet. This is the destiny. This entire story is written in a notebook. There is somebody who needs to be read that story every other day! 8.5/10.



17. The Ghost: Romantic movie is what I would call it. A man, killed by a mugger, turns into a ghost. He refuses to leave the world that his beloved lives in. He must transfer some message to his girl, but can’t find a way to communicate. Time is running out, as his old enemies will try to destroy the girls life. He must warn her. 9/10.



18. Wicker Park: Nice romantic movie. 9/10.



19. Catch Me if You Can: Ohohohoho! It’s a movie that never fails to bring smile to my face. I am a thief, you are to cop. Catch me if you can! Nice piece! 9/10.



20. The Beach: You make your own small community in an unmanned island. Conflicts, clashes, search for escape rout… Nice piece. 8.5/10.



21. Blood Diamond: Want to present your beloved with a diamond ring? Is there any blood in that diamond? How diamonds are collected, how if life back there in around diamond mines! My rating 9.5/10.



22. Carlito’s Way: One of Al Pacino’s not-so-famous movies. I liked it a lot. A mafia gangster’s struggle to return to ordinary life. My rating: 8.5/10.



23. Body of Lies: Middle east, army invasion, intelligence… truth is hard to come by, as they are covered by lies in layers. But that’s worth to search for. 9/10.



24. Shutter Island: What is real and what is your imagination? Are you a real person, or just a crazy illusion of a mental patient? Wanna know? Watch it. 9/10.



25. Saving Private Ryan: Private Ryan revisits the memories of war. 9/10.



26. Amistad: United States, at the brink of abolition of slavery. Some slaves, who murdered several white men in their fight for freedom, are brought to court. Will they be freed, acknowledging them as human beings, or will be convicted for murdering their masters? A lot of things hang in balance. This case when brought to the court, becomes far more than a criminal case. It becomes the decider of the future of United States. 9.5/10.



27. The Green Mile: A prison guard, who sees people being executed in the electric chair every other day, meets a prisoner, who is special. Big like a monster, innocent like a kid, did he even commit the crime he was convicted for? The guard doesn’t know, that this man will change his entire life ahead. 9/10.



28. Inglorious Bastards: The inglorious bastards won’t stop until they kill all the Nazis. 9.5/10.



29. Pulp Fiction: no comments. 9.5/10.



30. The Illusionist: Is the entire movie an illusion? you won't find out until you watch it to the end. a boy from a poor family falls in love with a noble girl. Natural magician, the boy escapes from the society, when their illicit love is revealed. After years of exile, he shows up as the illusionist. anything else I say, will become spoiler. mystery movies should remain mysteries. watch it. 10/10.



30. Forest Gump: no comments necessary. a BIG 10.
