Living with festive and harmony in Bandarban Hill Districts

People of Bangladesh has cherished and carrying the versatile color of their lives. They love to celebrate the different days and festivals throughout the year. Bengali New Year celebration is one of the most coveted celebrations of the people of Bangladesh. All the detours of Bangladesh became a land of celebration from the mega city to a tiny village. There are 15 ethnic peoples are living here in Bandarban Hill Districts who are celebrating the New Year in their own creed and style.



One of the villages named Krawamtolipara. It is a tiny village under the Bandarban Sadar Upazila. It is about 18 KM away from Bandarban town. Indigenous community like Marma and Chakma are mostly the dweller of this village. It is the peaceful and harmonious abode of where different ethnic group of people living together. They are very colorful and enthusiastic people. Their socio economical conditions are very poor and resulting they cannot manage to celebrate their favorite festival by their own.



IPDC (Indigenous Peoples’ Development Center) is a voluntary non government organization in Bandarban Hill Districts. They are focusing in health awareness, culture and educational program for the indigenous people of Bandarban Hill Districts.



In conversation with Dr. Mong Usha Thowai chief adviser and president of IPDC Bandarban that ethnic people has own cultures which they have been practiced since long in the hill areas.

To uphold the colorful festive of the ethnic people, IPDC sponsored the traditional Sangrain festival which celebrated on 18th April at the tiny village Krawamtolipara. They observed day long program including Pitha Utshab, Bamboo Climbing, Tag of war, Chocolate picking competition for the children and Pani Utshab (splashing each other with water)

it has been observed that the villagers of Krawamtolipara was in very festive mood and they enjoyed lot of the whole day. This program creates a positive impression among the ethnic communities. The program was ended with prize distributions among the winners.
