Amid growing evidence that the birth control drugs Yaz and Yasmin can increase the risk of dangerous blood clot conditions, thousands of women who’ve been affected have filed injury claims. Earlier this year, Bayer announced that they would take steps to settle many of these cases. Those settlements are still available for certain claims. Court officials state that more than 10,000 patients have now filed a Yaz lawsuit . In 2011, the British Medical Journal and FDA both warned that drugs like Yaz containing the hormone drospirenone could increase the risk of blood clots by as much as 78%.Prior to the start of the first Yaz trials in 2011, Judge David Herndon facilitated a settlement between the drug maker and victims. These can cause serious conditions like stroke, DVT or pulmonary embolism. Due to the number of patients filing a Yaz lawsuit, the cases were consolidated in a special federal court in Illinois.
