২৯ শে নভেম্বর, ২০১১ সন্ধ্যা ৬:৫২

QUESTION

I have question about Dajjal... Who is he? Is Dajjal mentioned in Quran... What are the things we need to know about him before he comes… Why is it so important for us to know about him.. please write me back in detail.……….

ANSWER

Following is a very good article originally written by Shaikh Mohammed Saleh Al-Munnajid (may Allah increase in his knowledge and award him a long life). I have added and edited some portions for clarification, provide more information and for ease of understanding.

Meaning of the word Maseeh (Messiah)

The scholars say said that the word "Maseeh"is applied to both the "Truthful One (Sayedina Eesa AS) and to the "misleading liar the Antichrist or Dajjaal". The Truthful Messiah, Sayedina Eesa Ibn Maryam AS is the Messiah of guidance, who creation was miracle of Allah, the one of the mightiest of messengers of Allah, who healed the blind and lepers, and brought the dead to life by Allah’s permission.

The false messiah (Al-Maseeh Al-Dajjaal, The Anti Christ) is the liar who leads people astray, the messiah of misguidance who will tempt people through the signs that he is given, such as bringing down rain, reviving the earth to bring forth vegetation, etc.

The scholars said that the reason why the Dajjaal is called Maseeh is because one of his eyes is Mamsooh ("wiped"; smooth or abraded). Or it was said that it is because he will survey or travel throughout the earth (yamsah) in forty days.

Meaning of the word Dajjaal

The word Dajjaal comes from the word "DAJL", which means misrepresentation or falsification, because he is a falsifier, indeed the greatest falsifier and the worst liar. The root word "Dajala" means "to mix". In Arabic language, the word Dajala is used to mean deliberately confusing matters, being vague and ambiguous, The Dajjaal is the one who speaks in vagaries, who tell lies and deceives people.

The word "Dajjaal" became a title given to the lying, one-eyed, false messiah. The Dajjaal is so called because he will conceal his kufr from the people by lying to them, deceiving and confusing them.

Description of the Dajjaal

He will have many attributes which were described in the ahadith to acquaint people with him and to warn them of his evils and deceptions. So when he comes, the believers will know him and will not be misled by him; they will know his features which the Truthful One (peace be upon him) told us about. These features will distinguish him from other people.

He will be a young man with a ruddy complexion, with thick curly hair, a wide forehead, and broad upper chest, blind or defective in the right eye. This eye will be neither prominent nor sunken, and will look like a floating grape.

His left eye will be covered with a thick piece of flesh growing at the edge of his eye. He will be sterile, that means no children born to him. Dajjaal is not mentioned in the Glorious Qura’n but in many ahadith that show specific signs or things that will happen before Dajjaal, the anti-Christ will appear, such as;

· Majority of the people will stop offering prayers

· Cheating and dishonesty will become the common

· Falsehood will be accepted as a good deed

· People will give up their faith for the worldly gains

· Dealing in Interest (Usury, Riba) will become acceptable

· Imbeciles will rule the world

· Wrongdoing will become acts of pride

· The rulers will be corrupt

· Innocents will be killed

· The scholars will be corrupt

· Adultery will be widespread

· Women will rub shoulders with men in daily life

· The men will dress like women and women like men

· The liars will be highly respected and accepted

· There will be shortage of commodities

· And then Dajjaal will appear

Saheeh Al-Bukhari narrated that Sayedina Abdullah Ibn Omar (RAA) said that he Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "While I was sleeping, I saw myself performing Tawaf around the Kasbah, when I saw a dark man with straight hair, standing between two other men, with water dripping from his head. I asked, "Who is this?" They said, "The son of Maryam." Then I turned and saw a ruddy-complexioned man, well built, with curly hair, blind in his right eye, with his eye looking like a floating grape. I asked, "Who is this?" They said, "This is the Dajjaal."

Saheeh Al-Bukhari narrated that Sayedina Abdullah Ibn Omar (RAA) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) mentioned the Dajjaal to the people and said: "…..the false messiah (al-Maseeh al-Dajjaal) is one-eyed, blind or defective in his right eye, with his eye looking like a floating grape…"

Saheeh Muslim reported that Sayedina Al-Nawwas Ibn Sam’aan (RAA) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) mentioned the Dajjaal one morning. One of the features of the Dajjaal that he described was: "He will be a young man with very curly hair, with his eye floating. It is as if he looks like Abd al-Uzza Ibn Qatan (a man from Banu Mustaliq)."

Saheeh Muslim reported that Sayedina Hudhaifah (RAA) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: ‘The Dajjaal will be one-eyed, blind or defective in his left eye, with thick hair. He will have with him a paradise and a hell, but his hell will be a paradise and his paradise will be a hell."

Where the Dajjaal will emerge from

Sunan At-Tirmidhi narrated that Sayedina Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (RAA) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) told us: "The Dajjaal will emerge from an area in the east called Khurasaan."

Imam Ahmad (RA) narrated that Sayedina Anas (RAA) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said that the Dajjaal will emerge from among the Jews of Isfahaan, and with him will be seventy thousand Jews, wearing crowns."

Places which the Dajjaal will never enter

According to Saheeh Ahadith, Dajjaal is forbidden to enter Makkah or Madinah. He will travel fast and enter each and every city on the entire earth.

Saheeh Muslim narrated that Sayeda Fatimah bint Qays (RAA) said: "The Dajjaal will say, I will travel throughout the earth for forty days, and I shall not leave any town without entering it, apart from Makkah and Madinah, which I will be prevented from entering because every time I try to enter, there will be an angel with an unsheathed sword in his hand, preventing me from entering. On every gate there will be angels defending it."

It was also reported that the Dajjaal will not enter the Masjid of Sinai, Masjid Al-Aqsa. Imam Ahmad (RAA) narrated that Sayedina Junadah Ibn Umayyah Al-Azdi said: "I asked a companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him), "Tell me a hadith that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about the Dajjaal." He (RAA) said, "He will stay among you for forty days, during which he will go to every place on the earth except four Masajid: Masjid al-Haram (in Makkah), the Masjid of Madinah, the Masjid of Sinai and Masjid al-Aqsa."

The followers of Dajjaal

Imam Muslim narrated that Sayedina Anas Ibn Malik (RAA) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The followers of the Dajjaal are from the Jews of Isfahaan will number seventy thousand, wearing striped garments and Crowns."

At-Tirmidhi reported that Sayedina Abu Bakr (RAA) said that "The Dajjaal will be followed by people with faces like burnished shields."

The Fitnah of the Dajjaal

The Dajjaal will be the greatest Fitnah from the time Allah created Adam until the Hour begins. This will be because of the mighty miracles that Allah will give him, which will dazzle people’s minds and amaze them except those who have genuine faith.

It was reported that he will have a paradise and a hell with him, but what he would show as paradise will be the hell and his hell will be the actual Paradise. He will have rivers of water and mountains of food. He will command the sky to send down rain, and it will rain, and he will command the earth to bring forth vegetation and it will do so. The treasures of the earth will follow him, and he will travel rapidly, like clouds driven by the wind.

Saheeh Muslim narrated that Sayedina Hudhaifah (RAA) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "I know Dajjaal will bring with him two rivers flowing. One will clearly look like water and the other will clearly look like blazing fire. If any of you sees that, let him choose the river which looks like fire, then let him close his eyes and lower his head and drink from it, for it will be cool water."

Saheeh Muslim reported that the Companions asked: "O Messenger of Allah, how long will he stay on the earth? The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, Forty days: one day like a year, one day like a month, one day like a week, and some of the days like your days." They asked, how fast will he travel through the earth? The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, like the clouds driven by the wind. He will come to some people and call them, and they will believe in him and respond to him. Then he will command the sky to rain, and the earth to bring forth vegetation, and their cattle will come back to them in the evening, with their humps high, and their udders full of milk, and their flanks stretched. Then he will come to another people and will call them, but they will reject him. So he will leave them and they will be stricken with famine, with none of their wealth in their hands. He will pass by ruins and will say, "Bring forth your treasure" – and the treasure will follow him like a swarm of bees. Then he will call a man who is brimming with youth, and will strike him with a sword and cut him in two, then he will put the pieces apart from one another the distance of an archer from his target. Then he will call him, and the young man will come forward smiling, with his face shining."

Saheeh Al-Bukhari reported from Abu Saeed Al-Khudhri (RAA) that this man whom the Dajjaal will kill will be one of the best people, who will go out to the Dajjaal from the city of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and will say to the Dajjaal, "I bear witness that you are the Dajjaal of whom the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) told us." The Dajjaal will say (to the people): "What do you think – if I kill this man then bring him back to life, will you have any doubts?" They will say, "No." So he will kill him, and then bring him back to life. Then he (the believing man) will say, "By Allah, I have never been more certain about you than I am today." The Dajjaal will try to kill him but will not be able to.

Sunan Ibn Majah reported from Sayedina Umamah Al-Bahili (RAA) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The part of Dajjaal’s Fitnah will be that he will say to a Bedouin, Do you think that if I resurrect your father and mother for you that you will testify that I am your lord? He will say, Yes. So two devils will appear to him in the image of his father and mother, saying, O my son, follow him, he is your lord."

Protection from the Fitnah of the Dajjaal

The Prophet (peace be upon him) has taught his Ummah about what will protect them against the Fitnah of Dajjaal. He left us on a clear path, did not leave any good thing without mentioning it, or any evil thing without warning about it. Allah told him many of the attributes of the Dajjaal so that he could us. The Dajjaal will undoubtedly emerge among this Ummah, because it is the last Ummah.

Saheeh Al-Bukhari narrated from Umm al-Mumineen Sayeda Aa’isha (RAA), said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to pray in his Prayers: "Allahumma inni a’oodhu bika min ‘adhaab al-qabri, wa a’oodhu bika min fitnat al-maseeh id-dajjaal, wa a’oodhu bika min fitnat il-mahyaa wa fitnat il-mamaat. Allahumma inni a’oodhu bika min al-ma’tham wa’l-maghram (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave, I seek refuge in You from the Fitnah of the Dajjaal, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from sins and debts)."

Saheeh Muslim narrated that Abu Hurayrah (RAA) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "When any one of you says Tashahhud, let him seek refuge with Allah from four things, and say: "Allahumma inni a’oodhi bika min ‘adhaab jahannam wa min ‘adhaab al-qabri wa min fitnat il-mahyaa wa’l-mamaat wa min sharri fitnat al-Maseeh al-Dajjaal (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of Hell, from the torment of the grave, from the trials of life and death, and from the Fitnah of the Dajjaal)."

Saheeh Muslim narrated from Sayedina Nawwas Ibn Sama’an (RAA) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said; "Whoever among you sees the Dajjaal, should recite against him the first ten ayat of Surah Al-Kahf."

Saheeh Muslim narrated from Sayedina Abul Dardaa’ (RAA) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever memorizes ten ayat from the beginning of Surat al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjaal."

In the Sharh of Saheeh Muslim, Imam Al-Nawawi (RA) said: "The beginning of Surat Al-Kahf mentions wonders and signs, and whoever ponders them will not be deceived by the Fitnah of the Dajjaal. And at the end of this Surat (18:102), Allah says: "Do then those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants as Lord besides Me?"

Mustadrak Al-Hakim narrated from Sayedina Abu Saeed al-Khudhri (RAA) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever recites Surat Al-Kahf on Friday, it will be a light for him from one Friday to the next."

Undoubtedly Surat al-Kahf is of great significance, containing ayat such as the story of the People of the Cave, the story of Sayedina Mousa (AS) and al-Khidr, the story of Dhu’l-Qarnayn and his building the dam to hold back Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj, proof of the resurrection and the blowing of the Trumpet, and explanation of those whose deeds are lost, those who think that they are guided when in fact they are misguided.

Fleeing from the Dajjaal and keeping far away from him

The best way is to live in Makkah or Madinah, and the places which the Dajjaal will not enter. Musnad Imam Ahmad, Sunan Abu Dawood and Al-Hakim narrated from Sayedina Imran Ibn Husain (RAA) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever hears of the Dajjaal, let him keep far away from him, for a man will come to him and think that he is telling the truth because of the wonders that are sent with him."

The death of the Dajjaal

The Dajjaal will be killed by the True Messiah Sayedina Eesa Ibn Maryam AS, as indicated by the Saheeh ahadith. The Dajjaal will appear on earth and will gain many followers, spreading his Fitnah far and wide. No one will escape his Fitnah except a few of the believers around Imam Mahdi. Then, Sayedina Eesa Ibn Maryam AS will descend to the eastern minaret in Damascus and the believers of Allah will gather around him. He will lead them towards the Dajjaal, who at the time of the descent of Sayedina Eesa AS will be heading for Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). Sayedina Eesa AS will catch up with him at the gate of Ludd, a place in Palestine near Bayt al-Maqdis. When the Dajjaal sees him, he will start to melt like salt melting in water, but Eesa AS will say to him, "I have some business with you, you will not get away from me." Then he will catch up with him and will kill. His followers will flee, pursued by the Muslims.

Saheeh Muslim narrated from Sayedina Abdullah Ibn Amr (RAA) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The Dajjaal will emerge among my Ummah and will stay for forty… Then Allah will send Sayedina Eesa Ibn Maryam AS, who looks like Urwah Ibn Mas’ood, and he will pursue him and kill him."

Musnad Imam Ahmad and At-Tirmidhi narrated that Sayedina Majma’ Ibn Jariyah Al-Ansari (RAA) said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "The son of Maryam will kill the Dajjaal at the gates of City of Ludd (in Palestine)."

Saheeh Muslim narrated from Sayedina Nawwas Ibn Sam’aan (RAA) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "… Every disbeliever who will smell the fragrance of (Eesa) will die; his fragrance will reach as far as he will be able to see. He will then search for the Dajjaal until he catches up with him at the gate of Ludd, where he will kill him."

Imam Ahmad narrated from Sayedina Jabir Ibn Abdullah (RAA) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The Dajjaal will emerge at a time when religious commitment is low and knowledge has decreased… Then Sayedina Eesa Ibn Maryam AS will descend just before dawn and will call people, saying, O people, what is stopping you from coming out against this evil liar? They will say this man is a Jinn, and then they will set out. they will reach Sayedina Eesa AS at the time of Iqamah of Fajr prayer, he (AS) will be called; O Spirit of Allah, come and lead the prayers. He will respond, let your Imam (Mahdi) lead you in prayer. After Fajr prayer, they will go out to meet the Dajjaal and when they see him, he will start to dissolve like salt in the water. Sayedina Eesa AS will follow and kill him."

I hope that the above provides some information about the False Messiah Dajjaal. May Allah The Almighty protect us from all the trials and tribulations, Aa'meen. Please remember us in your prayers. I leave you and your loved ones in the mercy, guidance and protection of Allah The Almighty
