1. Introduction
1.1 Human Rights Organizations are generally meant to watch the human rights violations, a holy responsibility indeed. We grow respect to an individual or to an organization for divine activities. We sincerely appreciate the efforts against the odds and misconducts. In contrast, Rupert Murdoch, owner of The Times seriously criticizes the credibility of the Human Rights Organizations. He accuses of poor research methods, for relying on "witnesses whose stories cannot be verified and who may testify for political advantage or because they fear retaliation from their own rulers." According to The Times, a Human Rights Organization "does not always practice the transparency, tolerance and accountability it urges on others". Echoing the voice of Murdoch, we feel disgusted once we observe dirty reports by an organization like Asian Centre for Human Rights. A report on Bangladesh: Sending Death Squads to Keep the UN’s Peace was published by Asian Centre for Human Rights in the month of June 2014. A sarcastic article like this would automatically catch the attention of any patriotic citizen of Bangladesh. So was the case with mine. I went through the article minutely and innately felt that this organization (Asian Centre for Human Rights) has turned into a huge laughing stock! I was thoroughly confused for two basic reasons, firstly, was it a report on violation of human rights or a devil endeavor to defame the Country’s reputation? Secondly, what was the connotation between UN Peace Keeping Mission and Death Squad (what a cynical terminology?)?
1.2 As a whole, I don’t hesitate to state that the report is a complete lie. It is inevitably designed to create a negative impression to the world community against an uprising and roaring future economic power. Initially, I shall make general comments followed by critical analysis of the report.
2. General Comments
2.1 Plenty of footnotes are used to establish the credibility of the report but most of which are vague and unauthentic.
2.2 The report purposely brings the irrelevant issue of BDR carnage number of times to emotionally blackmail a particular segment to sensitize the incident and to serve the purpose of some vested group/bodies.
2.3 The report is not aimed at human rights violation rather possessing a sinister motive to vandalize the Government achievements in different fields.
2.4 The organization (ACHR) remains blind in the issue of Falani killing in the border. Falani's killing in January, 2011 was not only a beach of international law but a gross violation of human rights and a display of barbaric inhumanity. (picture source Click This Link). killing of innocent people on a regular basis by Border Security Forces (BSF) could not catch the attention of this elite organization. Neither the organization initiated any report of similar kind after the gang rape incident of a medical student inside a public bus nor any protest by ACHR after a 6 year’s old girl was raped.
3. Critical Analysis
3.1 The report begins with a rubbish statement in the introductory paragraph stating ‘Despite a return to democracy in December 1990, the Bangladesh Army remains “the power behind the throne”. Since 1990, Bangladesh Army played a significant role to conduct free, fare and transparent parliamentary elections for five times. The role of Armed Forces was appreciated by all the international community and election monitoring committee worldwide. On the contrary, when the democracy took a matured shape, Asian Centre for Human Rights felt it necessary to slander the most disciplined organization of Bangladesh. The sweeping statement about army clearly portrays the witchy intention of the organization.
3.2 The introductory statement of the report continues with another lie stating, “there is no transparency in the selection of peacekeepers from any of the forces in Bangladesh”. Bangladesh Armed Forces contributes troops to UN since 1988. The policy formulated over the years for the selection of forces to UN is transparent and tested. The statement is drawn in order to achieving the cheap popularity amongst the armed forces members who could not make it happen due to many reasons. Asian Centre for Human Rights very cunningly tried to create rifts amongst the members on a touchy issue, which has no relation to human rights violation
3.3 The report made another stinky venture to sensitize the BDR carnage issue by stating, “the denial of opportunities to serve in the UN missions was one of the reasons for the revolt at the BDR Headquarters at Pilkhana, Dhaka….”. Question remains, why Asian Centre for Human Rights frequently brings the issue of BDR carnage in the report? Very surprisingly, the voice of Asian Centre for Human Rights was never heard once human rights were brutally pulverized by the derailed soldiers during the then BDR mutiny. The report apparently indicates that the efforts of ACHR are inversely proportional to the violations of human rights. The report very sneakily used the word ‘revolt’ instead of ‘mutiny’ in order to instigating and promoting another mutiny in the name of revolt. After all, the organization has to serve the purpose of some vested body instead of reporting on violation of human rights.
3.4 The report gives an exhaustive statistics of the military expenditure from the defence budget with specific examples of procuring Main battle Tanks (MBT) and Armoured Recovery Vehicles (ARVs). A legitimate question would automatically pop-up in every citizen of the country, what business Asian Centre for Human Rights has to that procurement? Is the organization unhappy for not serving the purpose of the vested country? However, I am yet to find any human rights violation in the subject.
3.5 There are definite reasons for an organization like Asian Centre for Human Rights to become jealous of Bangladesh’s Achievement in UN Peacekeeping Mission. Bangladesh Army started its journey in the UN peacekeeping mission in 1988 with 15 observers in UNIMOG (Iraq-Iran). Since then it is maintaining its dominance as a leading troop contributor country in UN peacekeeping. Bangladesh Armed Forces has so far participated in 54 peacekeeping missions in 39 countries. A total of 1,13,358 members from Bangladesh Armed Forces have participated in the noble task of peacekeeping. A consolidated list is appended below:

3.5 The report generates few examples of human rights violation by Bangladesh Security Forces in the Peacekeeping area with false concluding statements. There is no denying the facts that unwanted ill-disciplined acts are committed by all the troops contributing nations including Bangladesh, India and others. The report could be accepted if Asian Centre for Human Rights would have projected the comparative statistics of the criminal offences and human right violations committed by the troops of all contributing nations. ACHR very cunningly avoided those states. ACHR knows, the state of Bangladesh remains at the pinnacle than the other nations. To be more candid, this is the only reason for which UN demands more troops from Bangladesh.
3.6 Bangladeshi peacekeepers had been operating in many of the beleaguered areas of the world, under different trying situations, even against serious threats to their lives. On the way of global peace, 112 Bangladeshi brave sons laid down their lives. We all salute the supreme sacrifices made by these true sons of peace. These sacrifices might have shortened their lives, but in turn proved the commitment of Bangladesh towards world peace. I wonder why ACHR did not focus this issue in their report?
4. Conclusion
4.1 ACHR is a proven vulpine organization. An article like Bangladesh: Sending Death Squads to Keep the UN’s Peace can only demonstrate its devil design to defame the hard earned democracy in Bangladesh. Democracy in last two decades in Bangladesh had been a role model for any developing nations. This is very certain that India would never tolerate the progressive development to any of her neighboring nations. To accomplish the dirty intention, India exploits different organizations like ACHR and others. On the contrary, ACHR is ready to compromise the values and ethics for being engaged in conspiracy against Bangladesh in order to serve the purpose of India
