Shahina could save her life from poisonous snake, but could not save from the greedy men

She tells rescuers to give her son Robin adopted

April 29: Despite tireless efforts and blessing of millions people from both home and abroad, who watched the horrible scene, Shahina Akter, could not be rescued as alive from the collapsed Rana Plaza at Savar.



The widow garment worker hailing from Pakhimara Village of Khepupara Upazila under Patuakhali district, was finally picked up dead from the burned tunnel at 4:15 pm Monday afternoon. Most of the rescuers even the media workers and people gathered there could not controlled tears as she was brought up.



Earlier, Shahina was about to be rescued after a 20-hour effort by the Army led rescue team. But the endeavor came to 'zero level' as fire suddenly caught all over the rescue tunnel of the collapsed high rise building, which was illegally constructed on the land grabbed from a Hindu minority.



According to Shaninul, a volunteers who participated in the rescue operation, Shahina was found perfectly alright and was provided with food, water and oxygen after the rescuers traced her.



Shahina, is the mother of a one-and-a-half year old boy.



After the fire broke out, all the communication with Shahina was cut off.



Sources said, she was almost rescued when an anonymous civil engineer claimed that he can cut the rod that Shahina was pinned to. Although other rescuer wanted to progress the work steadily without creating any accident, the move by this engineer blazed fire.

All the rescuers had nothing to do but stand stunned while tears streamed, failing to rescue Shahina.



She also wanted to have 'khichuri' as soon as she gets rescued. Rescuers also managed 'khichuri' for Shahina and waited for her wholeheartedly. But the end was very tragic.



When the body was brought to Savar Adhar Candra Model High School, where most of the bodies were handed, Abdul Motaleb, father of the victim was madly crying while another family members of the missing victims and volunteers also rushed there, they could not control their tears.



FromThe old man was madly demanding the body of her beloved daughter, who was divorced by her husband Ahsanullah around two years back.



She was pregnant that time and after their relation finally broke up, she gave birth a cute son named Robin, a one and half year old boy, said Zahiruddin, the only brother of Shahina.



Due to the severe financial crisis, she had to work in the garment keeping her minor son under the care of her sister Jesmin, who lived Imandipur area of Savar.



Shahina was living at a rented room of one Shahidullah Master at Majidur area, an adjacent area of Imandipur, near Rana Plaza, Faruk, husband of Shahina’s nice said.



After returning from work, she first went to bring back her son Robin from her sister caring , shocked Zahir described her daily life.



When the report was filling at around, the body was kept at Savar Adhar Candra Model High School and the process was on to handover the body to her family members for funeral.



Aminur Rahman, Deputy Director of LGRD Ministry, who is working at the control room of Dhaka District said,‘‘ We have received some messages of Shahina through the rescuers.”



But there are some differences between the claim of her father and her last time message and this is why, we are verifying the identity of Shahina and the claims of her father Abdul Motaleb.



We have already communicated with the TNO of Khepupara Upazila of Putuakhali district and local administration is contracting with local representatives, Aminur Rahaman said adding that after verifying the necessary information, the body will be handed over.



According to the rescuers, As Shahina’s mother died many years ago, she requested the rescuers again and again to give her beloved son for adopting to a good man so that her son Robin could be properly grow up.



Shahina was saved though she a poison snake bit her when she was about twelve years old, a finger of her right hand was damaged, but she could save her life.

But she could not save her struggling life from the biting of the greedy garment owners and the building owner.

Thus the story of a girl ends.
