রাজধানীর পার্শ্ববর্তী গাজীপুর শহরের ছায়াবীথি এলাকায় গিয়াস উদ্দিন আল মামুনের রংমহল ‘খোয়াব’-এ টঙ্গী শিল্পাঞ্চলের জনপ্রিয় নেতা ও আওয়ামী লীগের এমপি আহসান উল্লাহ মাস্টারকে হত্যার পরিকল্পনা করা হয়েছিল। ২০০১ সালের নির্বাচনের পর রাতারাতি আঙ্গুল ফুলে কলাগাছ বনে যাওয়া মামুনের এমপি হওয়ার খায়েশ জাগে। নবম না হলেও দশম জাতীয় সংসদের টঙ্গী আসনের এমপি হতে চেয়েছিল মামুন। এ খায়েশকে বাস্তবে রূপ দিতে মামুনের আহ্বানে খোয়াবে একাধিকবার গোপন বৈঠক অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল। বৈঠকের প্রধান চরিত্রগুলো হচ্ছে সাবেক স্বরাষ্ট্র প্রতিমন্ত্রী লুৎফুজ্জামান বাবর, সাবেক প্রধানমন্ত্রী বেগম খালেদা জিয়ার বড় ছেলে তারেক রহমান ও স্বয়ং মামুন। আহসানউল্লাহ মাস্টার হত্যাকাণ্ডের পর তদন্ত ও অনুসন্ধান করতে গিয়ে পুলিশ কর্মকর্তারা এসব তথ্য পেয়েছিলেন।
হত্যাকাণ্ডের সাথে বিএনপির জড়িত থাকার তথ্য স্পষ্ট হয়ে উঠলে তা চেপে যাওয়ার জন্য বাবরের নিকট পুলিশকে নতি স্বীকার করতে হয়েছিল। এমনকি যুবদলের সভাপতি ও তখনকার বাণিজ্য উপদেষ্টা বরকত উল্লাহ বুলু সিআইডিতে ঘনঘন টেলিফোন করে নূরুল ইসলাম সরকারকে বাঁচানোর তদ্বির করেন। কিন্তু বাদ সেধেছিলেন সিআইডির বিশেষ পুলিশ সুপার (ঢাকা) এমএ বাতেন। এর ফলে তিনি বাবরের রোষানলে পড়েন। ঘুষের মিথ্যা কাহিনী সাজিয়ে বাবর স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ে তলব করে বাতেনকে গ্রেফতার, মামলা ও সাময়িক বরখাস্ত করেছিলেন।
টঙ্গীর বিএনপি নেতা হাসান আলী সরকারের ছোট ভাই নূরুল ইসলাম সরকার টঙ্গী যুবদলের সভাপতি। ২০০৪ সালের ৭ মার্চ দুপুরে টঙ্গী যুবলীগের ১০ নম্বর ওয়ার্ড কমিটির সম্মেলন চলাকালে মঞ্চে ব্রাশ ফায়ার করে আহসানউল্লাহ মাস্টারকে হত্যা করা হয়। ঘটনার সময় মিরপুর পুলিশ স্টাফ কলেজে সিআইডির বিশেষ পুলিশ সুপার এমএ বাতেনসহ ১৫ জন কর্মকর্তা প্রশিক্ষণে ছিলেন। সূত্র জানায়, আইজিপি’র মাধ্যমে সিআইডির অতিরিক্ত আইজির নিকট থেকে মোবাইল টেলিফোনে নির্দেশ পেয়ে বাতেন স্টাফ কলেজ থেকে ছুটে যান টঙ্গীতে। সিআইডির ঢাকা ডিভিশনের দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত এসএস বাতেন পদাধিকার বলে ছিলেন মামলার সুপারভিশন কর্মকর্তা। স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ে মনিটরিং সেলের বৈঠকে আহসানউল্লাহ মাস্টার হত্যা মামলার তদন্তের অগ্রগতি তাকে বিস্তারিতভাবে জানাতে হত।
‘যুবলীগের অভ্যন্তরীণ কোন্দলের জের হিসাবে আহসানউল্লাহ মাস্টারকে হত্যা করা হয়েছে’ তা প্রচার ও প্রমাণ করার জন্য বাবর পুলিশকে নির্দেশ দেন। সূত্র জানায়, অনুসন্ধান এবং তদন্তের শুরুতেই বের হতে শুরু করে আসল ঘটনা। ষড়যন্ত্র ও হত্যাকাণ্ডের শেল নিজেদের দিকে ছুটে আসার উপক্রম হলে বৈঠক ছাড়াও প্রতি সপ্তাহে বাবর ৩ থেকে ৪ দিন বাতেনকে মন্ত্রণালয়ে ডেকে নিতেন। তার পরিষ্কার নির্দেশ ছিল, নূরুল ইসলাম সরকারকে বাদ দিয়ে মামলার যাবতীয় কার্যক্রম চালাতে হবে। কিন্তু তদন্তে নূরুল ইসলাম সরকারই যে ঘটনার মূল হোতা তা বেরিয়ে পড়ে। সুপারভিশন কর্মকর্তা বাতেনকে বাগে আনার চেষ্টা অব্যাহত রেখে বাবর তদন্তকারী কর্মকর্তাকে দিয়ে নূরুল ইসলাম সরকারকে রক্ষার কৌশল অবলম্বন করেন। স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ে বার বার ডেকে নিয়ে বাবর পুলিশ কর্মকর্তাদের বলতেন, তার কথামত কাজ না করলে বিএনপি বিব্রতকর অবস্থায় পড়ে যাবে।
অনুসন্ধান ও তদন্তকারী পুলিশ কর্মকর্তাদের নিকট যেসব তথ্য আসে তা হচ্ছে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে ষড়যন্ত্র চালানোর পরই আহসানউল্লাহ মাস্টারকে হত্যা করা হয়। পুলিশের সূত্র জানায়, কিলিং মিশনে অংশগ্রহণকারীদের জন্য সংগ্রহ করা হয়েছিল ১৫টি আগ্নেয়াস্ত্র। মঞ্চের পিছন দিয়ে কিলারদের পালিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য প্রায় অর্ধকিলোমিটার পর্যন্ত পথের দু’পাশে যুবদলের সশস্ত্র ক্যাডার রাখা হয়েছিল। কিলারদের কেউ ধরার চেষ্টা করলে তাকে সেখানেই হত্যা করা হবে। আর হত্যাকাণ্ডের আগের রাতে নূরুল ইসলাম সরকারের নেতৃত্বে কিলাররা ফাঁকা গুলি ছুঁড়ে আগ্নেয়াস্ত্র পরীক্ষা করেছিল। পুলিশ জানায়, সেই সময়ে গাজীপুরের পুলিশ সুপার মিসেস ইয়াসমিন গফুর নিরাপত্তার জন্য যুবলীগের সম্মেলনস্থলে পর্যাপ্ত পুলিশ মোতায়েন করেননি। ঢাকা রেঞ্জের ডিআইজিকে অন্ধকারে রেখে বাবরের সাথে যোগাযোগ রেখে নিরাপত্তার জন্য মাত্র কয়েকজন পুলিশ পাঠিয়েছিলেন তিনি। কথিত নিরাপত্তা ব্যবস্থার মধ্যেই হত্যাকাণ্ড ঘটিয়ে কিলাররা ফাঁকা গুলি ছুঁড়তে ছুড়ঁতে নির্বিঘেœ পালিয়ে গিয়েছিল। বাবর এরপরই ইয়াসমিন গফুরকে গাজীপুর থেকে সরিয়ে স্পেশাল ব্রাঞ্চে নিয়ে আসেন। সরকারের শেষ সময় (অক্টোবর ২০০৬) তাকে অতিরিক্ত ডিআইজি হিসেবে পদোন্নতি দিয়ে বরিশাল রেঞ্জে বদলি করা হয়। মাত্র এক সপ্তাহের মধ্যে ইয়াসমিন গফুর নিজের বদলি বাতিল করিয়ে স্পেশাল ব্রাঞ্চে থেকে যান। পুলিশের একাধিক কর্মকর্তার মতে, বাতেন বদলি না করার অনুরোধ করে মিথ্যা ঘুষের মামলায় ফেঁসে যান। আর ইয়াসমিন গফুরের বদলি বাতিল গাজীপুর অপারেশনের (আহসানউল্লাহ মাস্টার হত্যাকাণ্ড) পুরস্কার...

22 sentenced to death for killing Ahsanullah Master MP
Life imprisonment for six

Twenty-two people, including a central leader of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, youth front of the ruling BNP, were on Saturday sentenced to death for killing Awami League lawmaker Ahsanullah Master at Tongi in Gazipur in 2004.
Six other persons were also given life-term rigorous imprisonment and fined Tk 50,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more in prison.
The judge of the Dhaka speedy trail tribunal-1, Shahed Nooruddin, handed down the verdict, which recorded the highest-ever number of capital punishment in a case in the country’s history.
All the convicted were sentenced two times to their respective punishment — one for killing Ahsanullah and other for killing schoolboy Omar Faruk Ratan. They were killed in a gun attack in an Awami Swechchhasebak League, AL’s volunteer front, rally on the Noagaon MA Majid Miah High School ground in Tongi municipal area on May 7, 2004.
The judgement, however, said those awarded death sentence would be hanged till death in one of the two charges upon confirmation of the High Court while punishment of those given life-term imprisonment would go concurrently.
Those walk to the gallows are Juba Dal leader Nurul Islam Sarker, Nurul Islam Dipu, Mohammad Ali, Mahbubur Rahman Mahbub, Amir, Syed Ahmed Maznu, Jahangir alias Bara Jahangir, Shahidul Islam Shipu, Hafiz alias Kana Hafiz, Anwar Hossain Anu, Faisal, Sohag alias Saru, Lokman Hossain Bulu, Al Amin, Ratan Miah alias Bara Miah, Roni Miah alias Roni Fakir, Jahangir, Ratan alias Chhota Ratan, Abu Salam alias Salam, Moshiur Rahman Moshu, Khokan and Dulal Miah.
The life-term convicts are Rakibuddin Sarker alias Pappu Sarker, Ayub Ali, Jahangir, Nurul Amin, Monir and Wahidul Islam Tipu.
The convicts can appeal before the High Court against the judgement within 30 days, it said.
Seven of those awarded capital punishment — Nurul Islam Sarker, Mohammad Ali, Mahbub, Amir, Bara Jahangir, Saru, Dulal — and five given life in prison — Rakibuddin, Ayub Ali, Jahangir, Nurul Amin and Monir — were present at the dock while others were tried in absentia.
The court acquitted two others — Kabir Hossain and Abu Haider alias Mirpuirya Babu (absconding).
‘It is a planned and brutal murder of a person, Ahsanullah Master, who was an ideal teacher, a good social worker as well as a popular leader and elected people’s representative in the area. So there is no scope to take a lenient view in the judgement,’ the judge said handing down the verdict.
‘I am happy with the verdict, but my complete satisfaction will come only after the execution of the verdict,’ Jahid Ahsan Russel MP, son of the slain AL leader, said in his instant reaction.
The lawmaker’s brother, Matiur Rahman, filed a case with the Tongi police on May 8, 2004, a day after the killings.
The investigation charge was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department of police on May 10, 2004 and senior assistant superintendent of police Khalequzzaman was made the investigation officer. They on July 10 submitted the charge sheet before the Gazipur court accusing 30 people and naming 78 as witnesses.
The police, meanwhile, arrested three of the accused named in the first information report — Mahbub, Monir and Dulal Miah — from a house in Badda area in the capital.
Mahbub, one of those sentenced to death, gave confessional statement to the magistrate and named other accused. He also helped the police in recovering the arms used in the attack.
Thirty-four witnesses out of 78 were examined during the trial.
Special public prosecutor Abdul Latif Talukder, Kazi Mohammad Sajwar Hossain and Sahara Khatun appeared on behalf of the state while Mohammad Sharfuddin Mukul, Mohammad Salauddin Miah, Nazrul Islam and Badrul Islam stood for the accused.
Several hundred of Awami league leaders and activists, mainly from Tongi, thronged to the court premises, cordoned by a large number of riot police.
The activists, who were carrying posters of the slain lawmaker and chanting slogans against the killers, threw stones and shoes towards the prison van carrying the convicted.
The police soon swung into action to disperse the agitated people in which a number of people received minor injuries.

Ahsanullah's family said they were happy with the punishment of the convicts, but the convicts and their counsels termed the verdict 'one based on emotion instead of logic' and said they would challenge it in the higher court.

এইটাই প্রমান করতে চাইতাছি বাবর চক্রান্ত কইরা থাকলেও ঐ হত্যার বিচার হইছে বিএনপির আমলেই!!!
