DACCA, March 14.—Mobs of Bengalis armed with machetes and bamboo staffs were reported today to have killed between 300 and 1000 Biharis in Khulna at the weekend. The bodies of the dead—among them women and children — were thrown into a nearby river. The captain of a tug said he had seen at least 50 bodies in the river. According to reports reaching Dacca, the massacre began when the Bengalis swarmed into the Bihar colony after the discovery of the body of a murdered Bengali. Khulna is 80 miles south-west of Dacca.

এর অর্থ হচ্ছে আজীবন রাষ্ট্রের নির্বাহী থাকবেন শেখ হাসিনা। এই আকাঙ্ক্ষাই রাষ্ট্র এবং সংবিধান বিরোধী আকাংখ্যা। আজীবন রাষ্ট্রের নির্বাহী থাকার অর্থই হচ্ছে সেটা ডি ফেক্টো রাজতন্ত্র বা মনার্কি। আধুনিক রিপাবলিকে রাষ্ট্রের মালিক জনগন। সেই তাঁর নেতা নির্বাচন করবে, প্রয়োজনে তাঁকে অপসারন করবে। এইখানে আজীবন রাষ্ট্রের প্রধান থাকার কোন খায়েশ পূরণের কোন চিন্তার স্থান নেই। আওয়ামীলীগের মতো বড় দলের শীর্ষ নেতা যখন প্রকাশ্যে এমন কথা বলে তখন সকল নাগরিকের প্রতিবাদ করা উচিৎ।
